There are a lot of these bashers from the period; Deer, Lance Parrish, Darrell Evans that fit the mode of the 80's power hitter. Strong bats, not quite enough longevity to reach 500. Deer playing in Mil didn't get much coverage.
To be honest, I’d never heard of Deer until I began the project
His body of work is extremely impressive, especially when you consider only Sosa/McGwire have topped him (with the 90s hitters I’ve observed)
He’s beaten out some big names
